North Star Blues
It's just 7 weeks away! North Star Blues is going to be a great weekend of Blues Dancing. Along with our fabulous DJs, Tina Davis, Cid Galacia, J Wardell, Corey Wright, and Matt Kelsey, we have added live music to Saturday and Sunday nights with Moses Oakland and Davina & the Vagabonds. These are two of Minnesota's finest with Davina just returning from a tour in Germany!
We are hosting a classic $5 Jack and Jill, a friendly $10 Strictly, and a no-holds barred Team Cuttin' Contest. Randy Pante, winner of 2009 Blues Shout's Cuttin' Contest, is leading a team from Toronto to compete. There's a crew of Minnesotans, and rumors of Chicago bringin' it. That is 3 of 8 openings. Think you got what it takes? Bring it to Minneapolis!
Cash and Event Passes as contest prizes!
Why Halloween weekend? Because we have the perfect venue for it. The Barn is a Barn just south of Minneapolis in Lakeville, MN. It has great wood floors for dancing inside, and firepits with smores to warm you up outside. We're hosting a MN Fall Cookout before the dance and then Moses Oakland will knock your socks off.
Come on out, enjoy MN Fall, dance the Blues with us.

DJ Spotlight:
Tina started doing the DJ thang in 2003 and now calls Dallas, Texas her home. She has been a featured DJ at workshops and exchanges all across the nation (and Canada!). Tina spins a mix of styles for her Blues, Lindy and occasional West Coast sets, but it's all gotta have a little "ass" to it. She also has a sick devotion to the University of Florida Gators and likes 80's music--but don't hold that against her!
Fall is in the air and North Star Blues is less than three weeks away! Registration is still $99, so sign up now at: http://www.northstarblues.com
We have the remarkable talents of Damon Stone, Tina Davis & Don West being put to work in judging the weekends’ competitions: Jack & Jill, Strictly Blues & Team Cutting. Speaking of Team Cutting, there are still a few team spaces open--so assemble your crew and practice your steps, because Halloween night someone is getting served and one team is going to walk away with all the bragging rights. Judging Criteria will include: Blues Aesthetic, Musicality & Creativity. Team Halloween costumes are highly encouraged.
DJ Spotlight:
Cid Galacia (Chico, CA)

Cid dj’s blues, spending time in the study of its music, artists, and history, always searching for contemporary hits and classic songs. Some of his favorite artists are Etta James, John Lee Hooker/Jr. Chris Thomas King.

DJ Spotlight:
Back in 2006, while living in Tampa Bay, FL, Matt Kelsey organized a small house party that evolved into a love of blues music. That party went on to become Poor Man's Blues, an ongoing blues mini-exchange weekend and also awakened his yearning to DJ at blues events. Since then, Matt has traveled and danced at many events across the country. He is looking forward to spending his Halloween weekend in Minnesota dressed as a costumed character. Try to figure out who he'll be dressed as!!

DJ Spotlight:
J. Wardell
J. started his dance journey in Tampa 2005. After traveling to his first exchange he wandered into a blues room (not thinking he would like it), and stayed until they kicked him out. J has never been to Minnesota and he is excited to DJ and dance there. He hopes that every song he plays makes you not want to leave the dance floor.
