Blues Revue
Blues Revue is a new workshop offering from Minnesota for the upper midwest region. With some of the finest instructors in the blues world Damon Stone, Heidi Fite, Don West, and Tina Davis, we will build upon your foundations to expand your repertoire and widen your horizons. The weekend features 6 regular classes, social dancing, and a special 2 hour final offering taught by all four instructors!
Blues Revue will be hosted in Minneapolis, MN from August 28th through August 30th. Website, Registration, and Housing will open around June 15th. Can't wait? Look in your North Star Blues registration confirmation email for special instructions on how you can save 15$ by registering early.

North Star Blues Exchange
Minnesota is proud to introduce the North Star Blues Exchange, our first all-blues-dance exchange. Hosted October 30th through November 1st, yes, Halloween weekend, we are putting our best foot forward for you.

North Star Blues -- Competitions
Yea, this is our first blues event here in Minnesota. And yea, we're throwin' some contests. Thankfully, we're pretty experienced at that (Showdown [thanks for so many great years Amy!], Midwest Lindyfest, TCBalFest, PLEX's, TCLX, etc, etc, etc) so we understand the importance of having a good competition coordinator. Someone who can not only define and run the contests, but can also determine concrete judging criteria. That person can also assist and work with the competition DJ.
For this position, we have hired the perfect individual:
Damon Stone
Damon Stone is our Contest Coordinator and Tina Davis is our Contest DJ. This dynamic duo will pair up to provide the best contests that we hope you have ever seen. Contest Descriptions, as determined by our Contest Coordinator, Damon Stone:
Jack and Jill
This competition is open to all levels of dancer in any style Blues. Just grab someone and start dancing. The judges will continue tapping out the crowd and you'll keep selecting new partners until we reach approximately 5 couples. Then partners will be assigned at random, and you'll be judged as a couple in the final round. Dancers will be judged on Blues Aesthetic, Musicality, and Creativity.
Strictly Blues
This competition is for partnered couples. The music selected by our DJs will be of varied tempos but will be primarily be in the Classic, Piano, and Jazz Blues style. You may dance any style of Blues, and dancers will be judged on Blues Aesthetic, Musicality, and Creativity.

Team Cutting Contest
Cutting or challenge dancing has existed for as long as dance has been around. The roots among African Americans traces its way back to derision dances in West Africa, but can be seen from the Cake Walk and Jig contests of the days of slavery, through to back room joints like the Hoofer's Club, grand ballrooms like the Savoy where Whitey's team of youngsters went up against Shorty's team of seasoned veterans where a young Frankie Manning introduced the first airstep, all the way to the b-boy battles of the 80's and Krump sessions of today. The soul of improvisational dance was put on display in battles of skill and heart both solo, partnered and team.
North Star Blues brings you the first contemporary Team Cutting contest for Blues dancers.
Teams will be a minimum of four people and a maximum of eight. You are encouraged to work as a team and use both solo and coupled movement. The rules are simple show us your best blues moves to the music of our choosing with the team of yours. Respect your opponents, and leave it all on the floor.
Assemble your crew and practice your steps, because Halloween night someone is getting served and one team is going to walk away with all the bragging rights. Team Halloween costumes are highly encouraged.

Don and Tina came to Minnesota last October and taught a fabulous Blues and Lindy workshop followed by intense master classes. Last January we subjected Damon Stone and Ria Debiase to a Minnesota winter and expanded upon the foundations that had been laid.
