Utah Lindy Hop Jam Session, Two days of foot stompin' slow draggin', hard swingin' and high flyin' Lindy Hop dancing and Competitions.

Featuring 2 of the best National Lindy Hop Dj's and one local hot DJ
These three kings of swing will be bringing you 14 hours! of hot swing dancing music. We will also be featuring a couple of local DJ's filling in some spots.
The DJ's:
Freddie "Freedie" Dickinson- Seattle Wa.
Freedie is always hot and anxious to play savage rhythms until all the cats join in. Spreadin' rhythm around wherever he plays, Freedie will make you shake the blues away. He's brought lindy hoppers delight at every tub from Seattle to Herrang, at events large and small, organized and won Seattle DJ battles, and has played all the local Seattle dance floors. He's so very diga diga doo by nature, and has been known to let it get sweet and hot until your sister Kate shouts "Ochi!" four or five times. If he could be with you just one hour at night, he's sure to be tappin' the commodore till you go viper mad!
Daniel "Dan" Newsome- Seattle Wa.
Dan Has been Dj'ing and dancing for over 8 years. Dan is dedicated to keeping vintage music, dance and culture alive. As a Founding member of the 1st place national team, 23 Skidoo, he also ran Denver's most popular swing nights at the Mercury Cafe, with regular attendance of over 200 people a night. Currently residing in Seattle Wa. bringing his knowledge and love for traditional swing music and blues. Dan is a well rounded DJ having a diverse variety of music that goes well beyond Lindy Hop, however he is far better known for keeping the floor hopping with his extensive collection of swing music which includes everything from hot jazz to jump blues. Being a fine swing DJ is just one of his forte's he is also a top notch blues dj with an equally extensive collection of various styles of blues music from Delta blues to Chicago style blues. His list of accolades include many dozens of DJ spots at national exchanges and camps.
Ron "Dante" Salt Lake City UT.
Dante has been collecting and Dj'ing the finest most excellent swing jazz music since 2005. He has claimed to be a DJ Superhero of sorts flying in with his Ipod in hand ready to save the night from he terrors and sufferings of bad swing music. Always at the ready he has developed a great love and appreciation for classic swing jazz from the 20's and 30's thru many many many hours of incessant conversations (babbling) with fellow DJ's across the country on which version of what song swings more than the other. He has Dj'd at ULX for the past 3 years, at Harlem Nights the past 2 years, and is a regular DJ at the Golden Skillet (soon to be Downtown Stomp) He has Dj'd nationally at events such as Old West Sausage Fest, and Lindy On The Rocks. He is looking forward to bringing all his best hot swing music for this event and keep the floor hopping along with his fellow Kings Of Swing
The Competitions:
Utah Pro-Am. Cost $8
In this competition an amateur will be paired up with a Utah Pro at random. You will not change partners and you will dance in an all-skate to 3 songs of varied tempos ranging from 130-180. With a spotlight jam style final round. Compete for cash and the adrenaline rush of dancing with one of Utah's finest (If you didn't get invited to compete as a Pro you may enter this competition as an Amateur).
Strictly Lindy: Cost $15 per couple
Match your best partner dancing skills against Utah's finest, this competition is open to dancers of all levels competing for Cash, Trophy and Lindy Hop Supremacy. In this competition you will dance with your own dance partner to 3 songs of varied tempos ranging from 160-230, with a spotlight jam style final round with at least 3 couple finalists.
Lindy Hop Jack and Jill: Cost $8
In this competition you will sign up as either a lead or a follow and be paired up at random, thus testing your awesome leading and following skills. You will dance to a total of 5 songs of varied tempos from 140-210, randomly switching partners at every song.
This competition will have one final spotlight round with at least 4 finalist couples who will each get to dance to a portion of a song picked by the DJ's (each song will be a different song for each couple, and you will not switch partners in this final round) Win Cash, Trophy and Lindy Hop Lead or Follow supremacy in this challenging competition.
Blues Jack and Jill: Cost $8
In this competition you will sign up as either a lead or a follow and be paired up at random, thus testing your awesome leading and following skills. You will dance to a total of 5 songs of varied blues tempos from Reaaaallly slow-Blues fast, randomly switching partners at every song.
This competition will have one final spotlight round with at least 4 finalist couples who will each get to dance to a portion of a song picked by the DJ's (each song will be a different song for each couple, and you will not switch partners in this final round) Win Cash, Trophy and Blues Lead or Follow supremacy in this challenging competition.
30 second Showcase: Cost $15 per couple
This division is open to dancers of all skill levels. But is designed for those with limited or no choreography experience. Competitors will enter as couples, and perform an original-choreographed routine to thirty seconds of pre-recorded music of their choosing. Dancing must be lindy hop and/or from the jazz era. Dancers are required to edit their music (either to cut or fade) and submit it in advance. Competitors may choose any part of their song to perform to; i.e. it need not be the first 30 seconds. Originality and new material encouraged, although not required. Costumes are also not required but overall presentation will be considered by the judges. Partners are not required to be of the opposite sex. An individual can enter this division up to two times, but they must dance with a different partner per entry. Cash Prize and a trophy will be awarded for the winners of this competition. not to mention you will be the envy of your fellow Lindy hoppers for your awesome choreography
Solo Jazz Competition: Cost Free!!!
Dancers of all skill levels are encouraged to enter this competition. Competitors enter individually. In the preliminary round, competitors will dance with all other competitors at the same time, to three songs of varying types. All songs will be in an authentic jazz style, but can vary between swing, Charleston/hot jazz, and slow/blues, for example. In the finals, the competitors will dance with all other finalists to four different songs of varying types. Enter this competition and win awesome prizes and the admiration and respect of the opposite sex as you jump, jive and gyrate all by your lonesome showing everybody that YOU CAN shimmy like your Sister Kate.
Diversity Contest: Cost Free!!!
In this contest you can enter as a couple or solo dancer. There will be an all-skate round in which all competitors will dance to various songs, of not authentic jazz style. (everything from Waltzes to Rap) individuals must dance according to the style of song being played and give the crowd a good show, The best 6 dancers (couples or solo) will move onto the final round in which they will dance a final all skate song. Test your dancing Diversity here and win some awesome prizes and lots of cheers and laughs from the crowd
