    Collegiate Jitterbug Championships at HSF
    April 17th-19th, 2009
    Iowa City, IA

Introducing the Collegiate Jitterbug Championships at the Hawkeye Swing Festival! The best competition for amateur and collegiate dancers! The CJC is unlike any other competition with new divisions and unique contest formats.

    Award Categories

Awards will be given in 7 categories with trophies given to the all around Lead and Follow Collegiate Jitterbug Champions! And as always the Cutters Cup will be given away to the best Team performance!

    AnySwing Goes
This division is one of a kind. Any style of swing is acceptable. It will be danced to a variety of music. It will begin with an elimination round and go straight into the finals which will be a no holds barred Jam format. It combines the traditional couples contest with an elimination, endurance, street jam!

    Slow Lindy/Blues
With the rise of interest in slow lindy and blues, we decided to let those dancers show us what they got. This challenging division will show off dancers that are diverse and creative.

    Solo Vintage Jazz

If you can’t dance by yourself, how can you dance with another person? This contest will allow the competitors to show off their moves and their knowledge of vernacular Jazz. Styles include, but not limited to, Charleston, Black Bottom, Cake Walk, Suzy Qs, Shorty George, Boogie Walks, etc.

    Diversity (same gender)
This is always a crowd favorite. Same gender partners will dance to a variety of music and show off their moves.

    Jack N’ Jill
JJs are always a popular event. Leads and Follows will be randomly coupled and will be judged on their ability to lead and follow.

    Team
The most exciting division the weekend has to offer! Teams from all over compete for the Cutters Cup. The UI’s Flying LindyHawks are undefeated in this event and are expecting a tough competition this year.

    Overall Collegiate Jitterbug Champion!
Competitors must compete in a minimum of three divisions, maximum of five. Must include Jack N’ Jill and AnySwing Goes. The Leader and Follower with the most points will be awarded the Jitterbug Trophy!
