PittStop 8 To The Bar
November 21,22,23 2008
Every year, the PittStop Lindy Hop exchange gets better and better.
PittStop 8 continues the trend --- We're pulling out all the stops.
As you've come to expect:
- We have the friendliest dancers
- We have the swingingest bands
- We have the best hardwood floors at each and every venue
------------------------------------------------
Let's start with the bands. We have a blow-out year, with more live
bands than you can shake a stick at:
George Gee and the Jump Jivin' Wailers
George Gee got his start in Pittsburgh, and we're pleased to bring him
and his orchestra back from New York City once again. A showman like
no other, George Gee will bring you back to the big band era!
The Boilermaker Jazz Band
The Boilermakers are hired far and wide to play at almost all of the
great swing events. Pittsburgh is proud to call them our own. Led by
Paul Cosentino and featuring the dulcet vocals of the dazzling Jennie
Luvv, the BMJB will swing you out like never before.
Dr. Nelson Harrison's Blue to the Bone
An up-and-coming swing band in Pittsburgh, led by Dr. Nelson Harrison,
a legend in the Pittsburgh and national jazz and swing scenes. Dr. Harrison
has played with the greats such as Jay McShann, Earl "Fatha" Hines,
Count Basie, and Andy Bey. Trained as a clinical psychologist, he's also
sure to cure what ails you.
Ms Freddye and Blue Faze
A new addition to PittStop, Ms Freddye lays down soulful blues to
help get you through those late night hours. We're certain she'll leave you
begging for more!
Jimmy Sapienza's 5 Guys Named Moe with Kenny Blake:
5 Guys Named Moe is one of Pittsburgh's mainstay swing bands, and
feature a classic swing sound reminiscent of Louis Jordan, and Louie Prima.
The addition of "Steeltown Sax Sensation" Kenny Blake makes them even
hotter. This combo always leads to standing ovations.
Rick Matt Project:
RMP is a regular PittStop crowd pleaser. They use their classic jazz chops
to bring a fresh and lively interpretation to our favorite swing standards. RMP
intimately knows the Pittsburgh swing scene and always plays exactly what
we need to get us through the evening.
------------------------------------------------
Now, the venues. We've scoured the city to find venues with ambiance
out the wazoo, and with knee- and foot-friendly hardwood floors.
Palisades:
Situated on one of Pittsburgh's many rivers, this venue features a
huge ballroom with one of the best hardwood floors around.
Soldiers and Sailors:
Ambiance is grandiose and elegant. Features a beautiful hardwood
floor, with a hardwood balcony to watch or dance from above. Movie
buffs should note that Anthony Hopkins was filmed in a cage here for
Silence of the Lambs.
Wightman Community Center:
Wightman is our weekly dance venue. It features a springy hardwood
floor in a converted old-school auditorium, and also provides a second
dance room of alternate music. Take your pick: Swing or Blues!
Edgewood Club:
A picturesque old style ballroom. Features a large and fast hardwood
floor. Windows all around let in the sunlight to help you wake up on
Sunday afternoon. This venue is always a hit with the dancers.
------------------------------------------------

See you in November!
right next to Thanksgiving. Curiously I've never had an urge to go to Pittsburg, though I have heard good things about the event.
There is a Facebook event page devoted to Pittstop. Please check it out at the following link.
