    Hey Everyone!

For those of you who attended last year, you know this is going to be quite the event. With all the dancing, skiing, socializing and playing you can handle in one weekend. The dances are going to be amazing with great locations, and some of the best dancers around.

The friday night dance is on the 100 year old spung wood floor at the Apollo Ballroom in American Fork, so the floor will be awesome, and it won't be a far drive for all of you who live in Provo.

For those who don't want to ski or board on Saturday we are going to have saturday afternoon activites and dancing up in Park City as well. If you want to do a little of both, ski and board some, and then come down off the mountain and come play in downtown Park City with everyone.

With over 300 people attending last year, the event only promises to be bigger this year. There will be great dancers coming from all over the country, so you won't want to miss it!

Why not? [Emoticon not found] Besides, it doesn't usually snow as much down there.

Provonians? Is that what we are called? I thought we were Provoites. Or maybe Proruvians?

    I think Proruvians sounds cool...

anyway... incase you all didn't know we have a few of our DJs lined up for ULX so far including: Dan Newsome from Denver, Doug Silton from LA, and Solomon Douglas... yes, the same one who was just here. [Emoticon not found]

I visited the Apollo, one of the venues, and oh man that floor is SWEEEET! If you think Elite Hall is nice wait till you dance at the Apollo! It's gonna be sweet!

    history of Lindy Exchange.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindy_Exchange

A Lindy Exchange is a gathering of Lindy Hop dancers in a city for several days to experience the dance venues and styles in that city while taking advantage of an opportunity to dance with other swing dancers. The modern concept of the Lindy Exchange was an answer to the globalization effort to spread the Lindy Hop dance throughout the world. Although the focus of Lindy Exchanges is on Lindy Hop, related swing dances like Balboa, Charleston, Blues, and Collegiate Shag are common at exchanges as well. The general theory behind the Lindy Exchange was that different cities foster different styles of Lindy Hop dancing, and by traveling and interacting with one another, dancers from many cities can improve their dancing while enjoying the culture, music, and camaraderie found in the host city. Generally, dancers who travel to an exchange will stay at the homes of other dancers in the host city.

Exchanges can vary in size. Some of the older exchanges, such as the Chicago Lindy Exchange and the D.C. Lindy Exchange, can easily have 400 people or more. Exchanges in cities with smaller dance communities may have fewer than 50 people. Lindy Exchanges typically do not have lessons or workshops since the focus is on social dancing.

Exchanges have created a national Lindy Hop subculture where swing dancers around the country have gotten to know one another. Yehoodi is a popular web community among Lindy Hoppers that serves as a place to advertise and discuss Lindy Exchanges.

The first Lindy Exchange occurred on Dec 4-6, 1998 in San Francsico, CA, USA between the cities of Chicago, Illinois and San Francisco, California. The intent of this exchange was for people visting from Chicago to experience the dance styles of San Francisco by visiting many of its established venues and dancing with the Lindy Hoppers there. As the popularity of the Lindy Exchange increased, the events changed from a strict city to city swapping of dancers to an open-invitational gathering of Lindy Hoppers from around the country (and, in some cases, from international locations) to one central city for a particular weekend. Now, many cities around the country and around the world host annual Lindy Exchanges.

    This is from Bug.

    Bug:

    Hello swing cats and kittens!

It's time to put together this exchange. This will truly be a community effort. So we need your help! Please sign up for a time to help out.

If you volunteer 3 hours or more you get a free t-shirt!!!

PM me with the time and day you want to volunteer and I'll let you know the details to get your free shirt! Also, include your full name and phone number so I can call you and remind of your time slot. Everyone who signs up gets a kiss from me! (a chocolate kiss that is.) Below is a brief description of the various duties we'll be asking you to do and then the schedule.

Set Up Crew: This is just a small crew that will make sure that the registration table is up, make sure that the chairs etc around the floor are set up etc. It's not a whole lot of work.

Registration Desk: These are set up in one-hour slots with a partner so you will have company. During this time you'll just greet people at the door, collect money and keep track of how many people come in, and give them their wrist bands to get into the dance etc. It's a great way to meet some of our out of town dancers as they come in.

Clean up Crew: This usually goes pretty fast. It's like the set up crew but opposite. Last year this went pretty fast so you don't have to worry about missing the late night or anything.

Sound System set up and take down: The band on Sat night will require more than our usual sound requirements. So, we need man power! (And especially, buff women power)

Event Captain: This is the person in charge. We're all pitching in for this event, but we chose event captains from the group of us that regularly attend meetings etc.

Event Runner: Yup, you're the gopher!

*Note* if you're the event captain or runner for an event you MAY NOT sign up in one of the volunteer slots. Trust me, you will be too busy.

Also, if anyone is interested in organizing a group sledding outing or trip to Park City to bum around let me know and I'll add it to the list.

Well, that's it, if you have any more questions PM me and I'll get right back to you.
