I know this conflicts with BYU's club, but if you find yourself north of Happy Valley, close to the TRUE Happy Valley (Cache Valley [Emoticon not found]), then check this out:

    Dancing at Elite Hall

Come Join us at Elite Hall in Hyrum every 1st and 3rd Saturday!

Lessons at 7:30 Dance at 8:30

    Cost is only $3!

Elite Hall : 83 West, Main, Hyrum, UT

They failed to mention that it has a sprung floor like the Apollo Ballroom in AF. Ryan says Elite Hall is bigger. Its super cool too cuz it has a full balcony. Built in the 20s or teens. My grandpa danced there back in the day too. Plus USU swing club runs it, so the potential is as high as we want to make it!

i think the next time we don't have a dance (or maybe when we have a lame dj like buzz scheduled) we should make a trip up to elite. i've been hearing about this venue forever, and haven't had a chance to go.

    what do you say?

From the evidence presented last time, I find that possibility thoroughly plausible... [Emoticon not found]

We've been trying to brainstorm ways to revitalize Elite Hall. My best idea yet -- Mario Kart Double Dash / Dance Dance Revolution Super Challenges with a projector!

No, but it sounds fun. Do you have the stuff to pull it off? I've got a gamecube, controllers, the game, and everything unlocked. I could be pursuaded to bring them the next time I come out, if you can't find anything else in the mean time [Emoticon not found]

My little bro has the game cube setup, but just smash brothers and no Mario Kart. We had that going on N64, but that's not 8 player.

    gonna agree here.

Long drive up, and the only time I really enjoyed it was when I was going with friends, the talk on the way up was more fun than the dance, or if I was going to see some chick, the making out was what made the trip up.

Elite Hall has no energy, and hardly any people. the most energetic couple was that old couple that was there.

show, door prizes, competitions and giveaways means people have to register, means you can be SURE people will be there - which was always the worst part, not knowing if it's gonna be a hit or miss with the number of people. an hour and a half drive up is not worth a "maybe it'll be good tonight."

and we could do mario kart and DDR down here in the valley. why drive all the way up to Logan for this?

elite hall has had energy before - maybe once, and hence, I made a few trips there.

Seriously, my recommendation (besides mario kart) is to have it be a once-a-month event. That way we can build up the energy, then later on we could change it to twice-a-month. The venue is too beautiful to lose. It's dead right now. Back in the day it was a riot every time; maybe that was when we still thought of it as an historic novelty, like Apollo. It's a gem of a building... shoot, i'm getting sentimental! WATCH OUT!

    Hey, Flatfoot!
Are we still doing that initiation of the next generation of swingkats this weekend??

Yup! This weekend is the dance geared toward high school students. Club members can get in for $1 at this event. I would also like to encourage the dancers from down south (SLC and Provo) to come up and show these youngsters what swing is about, so we'd be willing to offer the same discount for BYU, Studio 600, or Golden Skillet attendees. We are hoping to see a big crowd since prom is coming up and they might be interested in learning more about dancing.

    7:00-8:00 Lessons
    8:00-11:30 Dance

We will also be playing some other selections of music that they will be more familiar with. I'm sure that if you brought some music (any kind) that you'd like to hear played, maybe the DJ would consider it.[Emoticon not found] I'm secretly hoping that I'll see some hip hop, break dancing, and other stuff there.

    .....shoot! the secret's out!

I think anybody who has ever danced (or thought about dancing) to a song less than 70 years old and more than 90 years old should have to shout "Unclean!! Unclean!!" whenever a purist is around, so as we don't infect them with our vile ways.

Woohoo!!!!!! Last night rocked!! We had over 100 people come out to Elite Hall to strut their stuff. By the end of the night we were kicking people out of the place to close up the building!

The energy was intense. The best part is that the high school kids were going nuts over our dancing. They wanted to learn it all! I was shocked in how well they learned the material in Jeremy's class. IT WAS AFTER SEBEN STUFF!!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes![Emoticon not found]

Oh yes, and let's not forget how fearless they were in the jam circle.....dang, they've rubbed off on me. I've been excited about lindy hop all day.

A huge thanks goes out to all who contributed in organizing, promoting, teaching, DJing, performing, setting up and cleaning up, and to who everyone who came out. This event would not have come together without you!!!!XOXOXOXO!!!!!!
