Granted, this isn't much of a "one-stop" post unless you already know something about the event...

Looking for one-stop information, as the Minnesotans have it, about the Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown?
    Bookmark this post.

This information is not an official ULHS broadcast. This is a supplemental announcement by a Twin Cities resident.

How do I buy tickets to the event?
    Send lindyshowdown@gmail.com $135 on PayPal
    or
    Send a $130 check to
    Amy Johnson
    821 Glen Rd
    Newport, MN 55055

How do I reserve a spot in the contests?

    1) Add the appropriate amount of money to your Paypal or check payment to Amy when you register for Showdown and hope that there are records of your payment available at the venue when you arrive Friday evening.

Put the contests you're registering for and your partner's/team's name in the memo or comments section.

Bring a printed receipt or a photocopy of your check--with the date of payment on it in case records of your payment are not available at the venue.

    2) Sign up for contests at the door. Show up as soon as check-in opens on Friday evening.

How much do the contests cost?

$200 per team for team contests, $60 per couple for partner contests, $20 per person for jack 'n' jills, $15 per person for solo contests, $0 for the endurance contest (for Endurance, arrange your own partner; no registration necessary. Expect to dance 30-45 minutes at least.)

How do I buy tickets to the riverboat cruise before the event?

    Two ways:

    1) Bring $35 to the boat but ask if you can pay only $25 since there was no clear information about how to pay in advance

    2) Add $25 to your Paypal or check payment to Amy when you register for Showdown and hope that she can find a record that you paid when Thursday, Sept. 27 rolls around

How long is the riverboat cruise? When do I need to be there? Where am I supposed to be?

The riverboat cruise is approximately 3 hours long, from 7 PM to 10 PM.

However, you need to be at the "Padelford" boat cruise dock, ready to board no later than 6:30 PM so there will be time for everyone to file into the boat and launch it promptly at 7.

Click here for a detailed map of the area.

When and where else can I dance before or after the event?

At the Times Bar & Cafe, 8-11ish, Wednesdays. Live music, minimum purchase approx. $5. 21+.

At the Wabasha Street Caves, 7-10, Thursdays. Live music, $7 to enter.

At Tapestry Folkdance Center, 10-2, Thursdays. Recorded music DJed by Melissa Varriano on Sept. 27. $6/$4 to enter.

Click on the green icons that look like restroom symbols to look up directions to these places.

Where are the hotels? Where can I eat?

Click here for a Google Map with exact locations of hotels, restaurants, and more. Just click on a point of interest and a dialogue box offering you "Get Directions" will pop up. If you forget what the address of the Cinema Ballroom is, click on the turquoise placemarker to see it again.

    How do I get housing?

Book a room in a hotel.

Unfortunately, housing through the housing coordinator has absolutely, positively closed, no matter how good your bribes are.

I lost my host's address, and I can't remember the correct e-mail address of the housing coordinator.

    ulhshousing@gmail.com

    (But no new housing requests!)

    Are there any discounted hotels?

Yes, but rooms are limited. Call the Days Inn Midway (the closest hotel to the Cinema Ballroom) and ask for Reggie at 1-800-325-9722 between 7 AM & 3 PM, Monday-Friday. You can book up to two rooms per credit card when asking for the "ULHS rate," which is $65/night. Click here for more information.

How can I get around town if I don't have a host, or if my host can't drive me at a certain time?

The most reliable options are taxi, bus, and rental car.

The cheapest options are the bus and calling other people's hosts/guests or posting to the "transportation coordinator" (Niki) here or calling Carlos (who is doing a few shuttle runs on Thursday and Friday since he works at the airport) - 952-594-0493 / carlos.sbl@gmail.com - for rides.
