Only Thomas and Justin get the "blame"? [Emoticon not found]
It's my wish that sadducees and the rameumpton should only exist in the bible and book of mormon (respectively). With our powers combined, we are CAPTIA... oh, I mean we can rid the world of overbearing self-righteousness!

Never forget, folks:
YOUR RELIGIOUS CONVICTIONS, OPINIONS, DOCTRINES, AND BELIEFS ARE IRRELAVANT TO A VIOLATION IN A STUDENT CONDUCT POLICY(honor code) . And the student conduct policy is NOT a measure of what ANY spirituality's belief dictates is good, bad, right, or wrong.
As I've stated before, I take personal accountability for not bringing this up at the event. That's my fault. I AGREE WITH YOU.
Those arguments about how I'm acting like a pharisee/saducee and without sin cast the first stone and all their variants - AGAIN WHILE THOSE ARGUMENTS ARE IRRELAVANT - they imply that I too have accountability in being there, which is PART OF MY POINT TO JUSTIN AND THOMAS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, that EVERYBODY THERE needs to be informed that alcohol at a BYU student's apartment (ANY TIME AND ANYWHERE THEY LIVE SO LONG AS THEY ARE ENROLLED AT BYU) is a problem FOR EVERY BYU STUDENT THERE.
If it's a matter of simply not knowing, NOW YOU KNOW. If you choose to IGNORE these policies - AND AGAIN, THEY ARE NOT RELIGIOUS GUIDELINES, WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO THE LAW OF CHRISTIAN LIBERTY(meaning going by personal conscience and judgment) IN CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE - if you ignore these policies because you feel like you need to "chillax", then by DEFINITION, you are being HYPOCRITICAL (again, I can't emphasize enough how this applies ONLY TO BYU STUDENTS).
Sorry, folks. We can be honest with ourselves here. NO WE'RE NOT PERFECT. NO WE DON'T BELIEVE THAT THE BYU HONOR CODE IS A WAY TO BE OR BECOME PERFECT, OR EVEN "GOOD."
BUT WE - MEANING BYU STUDENTS ONLY - ALL GAVE SIGNED A COMMITMENT ON OUR HONOR THAT WE'D STRIVE TO LIVE UP TO ENTIRE CODE OF CONDUCT POLICY
WHETHER OR NOT WE THINK IT'S STUPID OR A MATTER OR RIGHT AND WRONG
WHETHER OR NOT WE THINK OUR FRIENDS MIGHT BE EMBARASSED OR OFFENDED THAT WE ASKED THEM IN A POLITE NON-JUDGMENTAL WAY TO TAKE THEIR ALCOHOL OUTSIDE.
Those of you NOT BYU students writing on and on here:
While I appreciate your interest and input, THIS ISSUE DOESN'T APPLY TO YOU. What we as students should and DO care about, is how you'd RESPOND to our asking you to not do certain things, and that we can't go here or there, for whatever reason.
And if I am personally violating my commitments to the university, especially when I don't know, then TELL ME. It's a pretty simple thing to make minor adjustments and encourage EACH OTHER to do so.
This thread only convinces me further that we have an unacceptable problem in this dance community with our non-byu friends not understanding the conduct policy, and our byu students not understanding or ignoring it.
And again, to the NON-BYU students who have to put in their two cents, please meet with an honor code office representative and actually REVIEW AND UNDERSTAND what the BYU student's commitment actually ENTAILS so that you actually have a valid point. I understand where you are all coming from. From your perspectives, you have great points! Unfortunately, your perspective assumes an ignorance of what we actually are required to do to maintain enrollment here.
And to hot chocolate, thanks for your candid opinion.
AGAIN, THE CONDUCT POLICY(honor code) IS NOT A MATTER OF "HONOR" IN THE SENSE THAT WE LIVE "HONORABLY" - RATHER THAT WE ACTUALLY KEEP OUR word OF HONOR IN DOING WHAT WE SAY WE'LL DO.
It's that simple. With that understanding, the arguments about self-righteousness and chillax all vanish away in every instance except the attempt to justify one's behavior that is contrary to one's promises.
To Lindykitty and whomever else: when other people ignore code of conduct type stuff, IT DOES INVOLVE ME. see http://honorcode.byu.edu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3569&Itemid=4623
and note that it reflects poorly on a university in which I am a part of. whether I cared or not, my image as a student here is affected. It's not between them "and God." It's between them and the UNIVERSITY by which all byu students are affected.
And to anybody that's offended by my statements: I apologize for offending you. I believe that by understanding what our actual commitments are, you won't be offended. I didn't intend to offend you.
If you don't want to or don't have time actually familiarize yourself with the policies here, my advice is to take off your proverbial sensitive sweater.
And it's not easy facing up the obvious criticism I knew would come and have my PMs and posts quoted and requoted by a dozen different personalities and consequently facing each of you in person who disagree with me. especially because my writing style is not often sensitive to all of you. I took the risk. I feel better. So thanks.
