After pondering why I cannot stand a certain dancer/new teacher, I started to wonder which is more important when teaching? Having amazing dancing skils, or having a good attitude (i.e. treating your students well, during and after the lesson)?

For me to want to attend more than one of a teacher's classes, attitude is much more important than his or her mad skillz. In this particular person's case, yes, he is an amazing dancer, and has come a long way in a short period of time. However, he has blown me off on more than one occasion, and given the choice between giving me the time of day and eating pocket lint, I think he would choose pocket lint. And also, it seems that his motivations are more self-serving than they are community-serving. And that's why I will never take another class from him again, and try not to associate with him. I don't like feeling like I am beneath someone else.

Now I'm going to worry that you might have been talking about me... [Emoticon not found]

I would prefer a teacher that has both mad skilz and has a good attitude, but if it were one or the other, I think it would depend on the situation. I might take from the rude mad skillzer so that I could learn both what to do while dancing and what not to be like while dancing. But I would definitely have to be in a tollerant/not easily offended mood.

But then again, I have taken classes from people who were not exactly amazing dancers, but they managed to make the class fun anyway... interesting.

Choose good attitude dude for small classes or one-on-one. Consider mad skillz man for larger classes, since he probably wouldn't talk to you anyway. You can kinda chill on the sidelines and absorb some mad skillz without having to choke on any personal interaction, or ostentatious lack thereof.
