Im taking a poll to see how much interest there would be from the dancers for a Saturday night Swing Dance Venue. This would be a summer only Venue since it seems as if BYU will not be holding swing club in the summertime. It would most lkely be held in Provo at a dance studio with hardwood floors on Saturday nights, so as not to conflict with the Skillet. So if you would like to see this happen speak up and cast a vote.. and we will see where it goes.
I would also like to hear everyone's Ideas on this I.E.atmosphere, music, hours.. yadda yadda. Let's hear from all the Lindy Hoppers out there
If I voted over on Swing Utah, should I vote again here? o_O
I would vote for having it at the Apollo once a month and then maybe downtown provo the rest of the time. We could check on having it at the same venue as Salsa Chocolate or Meridian school by Provo's Gold's Gym.
the apollo could be a great venue to attract new dancers...

salsa chocolate venue is a no-go for saturday nights.
The apollo would be fantastic.
I'm way stoked about the Apollo. How many peeps could we realistically get assuming we did it say once a month, planned ahead, and got the word out?
That's always a tricky question in summertime... but I definitely think that we'd get new and different people coming out with the change of venue...
I probably wouldn't be there every week, but I'd definitely go.
We'd attend a monthly Apollo dance. That would be pretty sweet.
Hm... logistics. The Apollo is $150/hour, right? So for a 3 hour dance, if you charged $5/person, you would need 90 people to break even. Would the be possible? I know sometimes BYU will have anywhere from 50-150 people on a regular Saturday night.
You'd need to do some serious advertising and bring in a lot of new people to get the Apollo jumping without eating some of the bill. 3 hours, like 8-11 or 9-12 would probably not work with some time consumed by lessons, so you'd have to abandon newbies or come up with a solution of teaching a half hour lesson off to the side at the start.
I didn't count attendance at the skillet this past Friday with most the active dancers in the state and a couple of visitors, but given 28 competitors, I doubt we had more than 70 in attendance. To make the Apollo pay for itself, you would need to be more successful than a Skillet event in summer.
