So I heard that there is a blues/lindy/westcoast exchange in Portland June 1st through the 3rd. Is anyone going to it? It is called "Come Rain or Shine"
workshops, not exchange.
I am still driving up, and anyone that wants a ride can get one. Here is the website if you want to register for it
Im going I havnt done the reg. yet but Ill have it done soon I think melissa and sas are coming up also. its all about the workshps for me this summer. so far Im going to hit tuson lindy bomb, come rain come shine and austin blues party.
scott
Indeed, Melissa and I are probably going to that one. I think there are a few others that weekend that we're deciding among, but if there's a guaranteed ride up we'll probably go to Portland.
Scott, Liss has to bail on me for the Austen Blues Party, and I'm pretty sure I'd sell my soul to go. Perhaps you and I should talk about a transportation arrangement for that weekend. Preferably that involves no soul-selling on my part. ^_^
sarsaparilla:Preferably that involves no soul-selling on my part. ^_^
But if not?
Well, as aforementioned, I really really wanna go. So I guess sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. [Emoticon not found]
PS I like how I spelled it Austen as in Jane Austen, instead of Austin as in Austin, TX. [Emoticon not found]
I have the hook ups in Austin. It'll probably be one of the easier ones to get off the ground.
I do however need to figure out getting around in Denver next month . . .
I think Chuck will need to be the one to hook us up in Denver.
i'll be teaching in portland.
I'm thinking I want to go to this one, too.
I am amazed to discover that (according to google maps) Portland is only 20 minutes farther away from Provo than Tucson is. You learn something new every day.
On a related note, our 4-to-a-car setup on the Tucson trip was a good arrangement. Only 3 hours of driving apiece, and only ~$20 gas each way-- despite gas prices like $3.319/gal.
Mmmkay, I totally just registered for "Come Rain, Come Shine".
Please tell me you haven't all bailed on the carpool.
Any good flight deals?
I have no idea. My (inexpert) flight deal-searching skills don't turn up anything promising.
Really, the drive to Tucson wasn't half bad, and the drive to Portland is supposed to be comparable... if you consider getting there as half the fun, driving seems to be the way to go.
But if everybody else is taking their private helicopters, I'd probably have to bite the bullet.
ding fares?
There are other good airfare prices besides Ding! Though Ding! does appear to have really good ones occasionally.
i've heard good things about farecast
Between many people planning on ABP and nobody replying on this thread, things are looking less promising for me.
I haven't been able to find airfares cheaper than, like $300ish, and I'm hearing less and less people going to Portland... [Emoticon not found]
Keep an eye out, I guess, if anybody sees cheaper tickets, it would behoove me to snap them up.
SwinginSax, are you still in?
Mmkay, guys. I am still planning on going, and would still much rather carpool than fly. My truck can fit two people besides me.
I will pay registration fees for the first person to volunteer to drive up with me.
Heck, I'll even buy you the t-shirt.
Phone me at #928-322-7073, PM me, or reply to the thread.
squemily and virgil are going. you could talk to them and see how they're getting there...maybe they'll carpool w/ you?
An excellent suggestion!
Until such time as I get ahold of them, my offer stands. I've PMed sqemily, but if anybody has a phone number for virgil or emily, I'll make good use of it.
F, who died and left you money to pay for others dancing?
Buying someone else's registration is way cheaper than plane tickets.
sqemily and virgil are flying, by the way.
Traci, you're the bomb. More help than anybody else. And it was nice to dance with you at the Skillet.
As it turns out, I ran into Tyson there, and he's got most of the Provo group that's going, and said I was welcome to come with. I guess it never rains but it pours, eh?
I have found rides. The offer is closed.
Thanks for playing!
An email came out to the registered list. Some of you may wish to know that the housing co-ordinator is Kara Pesznecker <peszkandy at gmail dot com>.
Someone at the house the other day wondered who the instructors were. I include the list here:
Kara Pesznecker:Hey all, hope you are all excited for this weekend! I need a little information from all of you before I can place you in houses. Also David Keogh was kind of entertaining the idea of maybe getting a hotel room and sharing with a few people he found a place for $60 and if we are in a pinch that might be a good option so if you think you might like that idea let me know.
Other things I need to know, is there anyone that you are traveling with that you need to be housed with?
Are you willing to share a bed (same sex, not same sex)?
Are you allergic to animals?
Anything else I should know, I am kind of new to this housing thing.
David Keogh:As Kara mentioned, I'm thinking of booking at the Red Lion - Convention Center. Hotwire has rooms there for $209 for all three nights, tax included.
I'm not particular about male/female sharing. I just shared a hotel room with three women for the Denver exchange and it was just fine (okay, maybe a little contention for the bathroom...) Although I don't ever recommend it for extremely light sleepers. [Emoticon not found] I will have a rental car. So, if anyone is interested in sharing the hotel, let me know asap.

We're staying with Jason, so this applies to us:
Kara Pesznecker:I just wanted to let you know for all of you staying with Jason, he is in the process of moving so his house is a little torn apart and full of boxes but he is more than happy to have everyone, also expect a lot of people, I had to assign 9 people to his house, but that just adds to all the crazy fun times right [Emoticon not found]
Also for some reason I don't have his address so I will try to get that from him or give him a call. Sorry things have to be this way we are short on hosts.
All Ive got to say that wasnt in the ratings post is that if you didnt make it this year you need to go next year. It was the best dancing of the year.
