anyone use foobar 2000 for their music player? or, does anyone know of a free music player that will let you display BPM?
I used it for, like, half an hour one time. Not bad. I don't remember why I didn't stick with it.
I don't know much about bpm analysis software off the top of my head, but having looked into the issue for about five minutes, the page I had the most fun with was here:
http://www.mmartins.com/mmartins/bpmdetection/bpmdetection.asp
there are a couple of itunes plugins that do that... if you're into itunes.
really? i couldn't find anything. maybe i'll have to look again.
dude. itunes doesn't need a plugin to display bpm. i just didn't think of using itunes because i don't have an ipod. now i just have to find something that lets me sync itunes playlists with my not-ipod.
can i run itunes from an external hard drive/usb drive? or does it have to be installed? if that makes sense.
Synching itunes playlists with a non-ipod seems to be the purpose of the BadApple iTunes plugin at http://badfruit.com/.
iTunes likes to be installed, but it looks like there are other things that might do the job. The two most promising pages I've seen are:
http://www.yamipod.com/

i use it for flac and ogg files.
Are there any apps out there that figure out the BPM so you don't have to do it all manually? that'd be sweet.
Mixmeister BPM analyzer is free, and it adds a tag to the files you analyze. Supposedly it's one of the more accurate ones, and it sure beats those crappy click-your-mouse-on-the-beat programs.
traci:dude. itunes doesn't need a plugin to display bpm.
i know. i was talking about a plugin that finds bpm...
o. well then. that's cool.

wait...i didn't know that itunes displays bpm. Where do you look? I don't see them. [Emoticon not found]
You can right-click on the names of the columns and select it as a column to show.
ok, this is really idiotic and helpless of me. BUT... how do I get itunes to change the bpm? I tried right clicking on the column, which if I right click then left click, usually it lets me edit the column. In this case, though? Nada. Zilch. Nothing. It's very frustrating. So how do I change it and STOP THIS EVIL?!!!
If you right click, then from the context menu select "get info", you can select the "info" tab and edit the bpm field from there. It's to the right of "grouping" and below "disc number".
you can also use one of the utilities on the page posted earlier to detect the bpm automatically...
yeah, but sometimes what the bpm actually is and what we perceive it to be are different. for example, i have this one fast-ish blues song that Mixmeister says is 115 bpm, but no one in their right mind is going to dance to it that slow, so i edited it to be 230.
