Hi- so I'm totally new to all this, and feel really dumb writing on here. BUT- I really love swing dancing and want to come swing dance and all, but I'm having trouble finding a partner. So can i just come to the dances without one??

tink, you do not need a dance partner. Just come by yourself is good enough. In fact, BYU is going to have a dance tonight in the KMB building. Beginner lesson starts at 7:00pm.

I would say you are better off without a partner. Dancing with a lot of people is how you learn new things and meet new people.

Some time over the last century people started gettting this wierd idea that you need to dance with just a partner or SO. Traditionally (or at least from several traditions), you would dance with friends, relatives, married people, parents and the same gender as you.

Dancing is first and foremost a social activity and I find people who come and just dance with their partner are being anti-social and miss out on opportunities to build friendships as well as dancing skills.

Yes, it's very boriiiiiiiing if you have to dance with the same person over and over and over again.

Too true... you learn a lot by how the other person leads/follows, how they interpret the beat and the phrases of the songs, and by how they react to different moves. If you dance with just one person all the time your connection (i.e. the ability to lead or follow) skills will just suffer. And... then you don't get to flirt with all the cute girls or guys there.... [Emoticon not found]
