Hi, I am a college senior and run the TLU Swing Kids here at Texas Lutheran University near San Antonio. I am looking to visit several dance scenes in the Midwest, Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountain, the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. This includes high-profile scenes such as Seattle and DC as well as lesser respected, small, or mid-size city dance scenes such as those in Utah. I had fun with the Austin dance scene. At the Austin Swing Syndicate dances, all the ladies come up to ask me to dance, despite being unknown there. I was not impressed much with my home scene (Houston). So I became a member of the Syndicate.

I danced ballroom, swing and salsa for half a decade. I recognize BYU for the world-famous ballroom program. As a ballroom dancer (given TLU's Swing Kids is actually a division of the TLU Ballroom Dance Society, which I founded last year), I plan to compete for the first time soon...

As a sober guy, I found the right place. Other scenes I plan to visit have too many drunks.

Yes, El Chuy, I am the guy known as Apostle on Yehoodi. But I am phasing out the moniker in favor of Excelsior, as I done on the Columbus, Cleveland and Minnesota Lindy forums. I am now posting on local forums to get to know everyone nationally!

    Sam Thompson :o

For all those on the board, here is a link to the thread on yehoodi that Apostle/Excelsior makes himself known. It's a must-read. The best stuff starts on the second or third pages.... true comedic gold.

    Good old ASSyndicate.

I tried to go last Thursday, but couldn't get a flight in on time. Curiously enough, their music mix isn't as stodgy vintage as some people have been promulgating around here.

I'll probably go to their exchange this year too. Unfortunately, Austin is a smaller airport than SLC, so flights are neither cheap nor direct.

Well, I went to the Lindyfest in Houston last month and then on April 5, I went to the Austin Swing Syndicate dance the night before my 24th birthday.

But there is no way I am likely becoming a permanent Utah resident. I can't stay single there long with all the young married people (due to the LDS culture). That means I have to find someone who is drunk. What a loser I am! Plus, this is an earthquake-prone zone!

Oh, shoot, what was that? Was it an earthquake? Did you feel that?

"Can't stay single there long"? huh? So as soon as you set foot in the state you're to be swarmed with women and married right?

"This is an earthquake-prone zone"? So Texas has a lot of earthquakes, and that's a reason to stay?

Not earthquakes, but hurricanes. I am trying to move out of the state if a hurricane hits here. Remember Rita? Well we felt like it was going to come but headed east!

Read about the possibility of a major Utah quake:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasatch_Fault

Also, where I live is potentially quake-free! See the "geology" section:

earthquakes shmearthquakes. yes, there is a possibility of an earthquake happening here, but it's not like it's san francisco or seattle or something.

and hurricanes in seguin, tx? really? now i'm rather uneducated about hurricanes, but it seems doubtful to me that a hurricane would travel that far inland (and still have much energy to do significant damage). but like i said, i know this much about hurricanes.

and if you move out here, i, as a member of the female population in Utah, promise not to jump on you when you arrive and ask you to marry me.

Sure, she says that now. We'll just have to see what really happens when Excelsior moves here.

Looks like I have put my travel plans on hold since I have been discouraged from social dancing by Yehoodites. I quit school after finals and I am back at home this summer with virtually nothing else to do. [Emoticon not found]

Don't let the yehoodites boss you around! Well, unless they're giving good advice...
