So last night i was talking to Kevin at BYU ID and Challenged him and BYU ID to a Lindy hop showdown. 3 BYU ID couples vs. 3 BYU couples. I told him that at HNs two weeks ago someone told me that they thought the BYU ID swingers could have taken Melissa and I. So I thought it would be fun to see what they could do Ive never seen BYU ID in a comp. So we dont have a date, time, or place yet, but if anyone is interested in jump into the Showdown let me know and we will work out the details.

Well, I'm suggesting holding it here in Logan, since we're sort of halfway between you guys. It might allow more people from both venues to come & watch/participate.

(besides, the BYU-I leads are dang fun to dance with [Emoticon not found] )

See Im not as well traveled as some but I dont think Logan is a half way spot. I think its like 2 hours and 40 min. for us and like 1 and a half hours for BYU ID. I could be wrong though.

Hey, I'm perfectly neutral. I'm not competing. [Emoticon not found]

First Im waiting for BYU ID to respond to the challenge, but I would like two songs first one all skate medium tempo second fast jam style.
Melissa said she would jump in the ring with me. Ill try to keep up with her as I think she is now a better follow then I am a lead. As for the other BYU couples let us know if you want to jump in.

Nope. It's about the same, or even longer of a drive for the BYU-I people to come to Logan. Give them a break and stop whining about long drives. [Emoticon not found] [Emoticon not found]

You are more than welcome to come out to Logan for this! Yes, it will be neutral ground. We don't like either group. [Emoticon not found] J/K!!!!!!!!!

I recommend April 21st to come out and do this Showdown. However, I need to okay it with my council first. I'll get back to you on that.

    Google Maps says:
125 mi (about 2 hours 4 mins) Provo -> Logan
181 mi (about 2 hours 50 mins) Rexburg -> Logan

But it's pretty close to the same amount of time, because they get to go * 75mph+ the whole way and we only get 65mph+ plus we have to go through Salt Lake City traffic.

    * the + is because I almost always speed.

Another alternative would be to include that in the competition that is in the works that will take place at BYU in late March. It could be one of the categories.

That's not true. It's 75 part of the way to Logan from SLC.

Do it in Logan. IMO it'd be quite unfair to say "challenge!" and then make them drive 4+ hours for it.

They havnt accepted the challenge yet and we havnt set a place or date. I never said they would need to drive four hours if we challenged them. I think it would be fun to go up to ID scence we made the challenge. Thats the way it happened when Frankie did his first airstep in a showdown. Logan may be a better location so we can get more people out, but we need to wait for BYU ID to accept before we get all excited. Also it would be nice to dance in a place without the heaters on can we do that in the hall with spring loaded floors up in Logan? both times Ive danced up there its been very hot inside the building [Emoticon not found]

I agree. What are you up to HC/S?

As far as the heat at Elite Hall goes, it's normally not a problem, at least not the first couple of hours of dancin'. I do think they(management/Hyrum) may have upped the heat that night since it actually was warm upstairs early in the evening--and that's pretty rare-- but we(USU Swing Club) never adjust the heat.
I think there were just so many of us dancin' and havin' a good ol' time HN Sat, that things just heated up early.
But, maybe it's just you, gumby.... [Emoticon not found]

Ok, back onto the topic of a showdown. If BYU, BYU-I, USU are going to have a throwdown... er I mean, showdown, then make sure the couples actually go to BYU, BYU-I, or USU. None of this Invitational stuff where we'll call it a college showdown, and then have almost all non-college dancers.

Just to clairify buzz are you think each couple must attend the school in question not just dance in the scene every week? All ive got to say is good luck getting couples that dance well with each other that both go to the school claimed. Id also rather not go that route as I was the person who issued that challenge and would like to compete.

Well, Kevin said that they accept!!

But they also mentioned that they will be bringing down Heidi, who is no longer a student there, but is considered unanimously a BYU-I follow. I would say you are a BYU lead. But that also brings in the extenuating circumstances. I don't know.

Anyway, they suggest Saturday March 31st, conference weekend.

Let's not make it a college showdown. Why restrict it to students this time? My vote is that they just need to be identified with that sub-scene.

Im down for that. I think its good Heidi is coming down i didnt get to dance with her at HN.

The only question I have now is who will judge? Id like to see some of the people from SLC and maybe some from outside the state if possible.

Hello, this is my first time on this forum thing and it seems like Scott's challenge to BYU-I has sparked some interest. I have extended the "Challenge" from Scott to the BYU-I folk and they said, "Sure." So looking at our agenda, the best time for us would be conference weekend, which is like the end of March or begining of April I believe. As far as place goes, we think that Provo will be just fine. As for judging, the dancing will determine the outcome, though audience judged would be best. As for the comment that the dancers should all be college students or something like that...that is fine. Though *Note*... Heidi will be one of our follows. She graduated last semester yet continues to live and work here in Rexburg and is counted by others (outside Rexburg) to be an Idaho follow. So, if anyone has a problem with that, then 1) It's your problem not ours 2) You can disqualify us and we will still come down and have lots of fun and 3) If you are really that concerned, than you also may run someone that is not "technically" a student. It does not matter to us. The rest of us, however, are currently enrolled here at Brigham Young University Idaho. As far as how the competition is set up, you can work it out however you would like. Just let us know and we will be there to have some fun. Sorry this is so long but I believe I have covered what I need to from the BYU-I side. Any questions, comments concerns or complaints, just let us know. Life is good. Have a great day.

    Sincerely,

    Kevin Wright BYU-I[/list]

Logan can come down, but I was talking about it with roach and he thought it would be better to keep it simple and just challenge BYU ID this time and then in a bit we may challenge USU. So come down and play with us Loganites and we will be sure to have a showdown with you Asap.

I think we will call it a lindy showdown and many of the dancers competing and not competing will think they are doing lidy but you can let us know after its done what you thought it was [Emoticon not found] . I really think like you have said before we dont have a pure lindy scene here like they do in Seattle Ive watched many of the Seattle dancers and I know what you mean by this and agree. I think we tend to lean much more towards west coast stylings even if we try to make our basic lindy. I admit I think Ive got some west coast stylings guess im just a swing mutt.
