    fixed linkey

The immense amount of energy I feel from watching this clip is only a minute fraction of the energy I feel when I'm physically in the same room as Frankie. Watch Skye (blond to Frankie's left) to get a feel for the energy in the room.

Oh and he's 91 in this clip and 92 right now.

Generally I like having my own party or celebration for my birthday. In addtion, I share a birthday with my brother so my family likes to get together and my mom likes to make us a birthday meal. I'm all for eating my favorite foods on my parents dime, so yes, there is a small problem.

I bet a simple "Virginie, would you like to dance?" would work pretty well...

Instructors—it just doesn’t get much better than this!

Steven Mitchell and Virginie Jensen are nothing short of fantastic. These guys are at the very top of Lindy Hop dancers and teachers and they keep getting better. They are grounded in the roots of Lindy Hop but their creativity keeps them vital and fresh. To watch them dance is awesome. They become one with the music. To be in their classes is to share in their magic. If you don’t know who they are just ask any experienced Lindy dancer to fill you in.
Steven is largely responsible for the recent Lindy Hop revival, after traveling to New York in 1983 to learn from Frankie Manning and others he has enthusiastically shared his knowledge of swing dance and music with countless people all over the world. Most of today’s well-known Lindy instructors studied with Steven including: David Delmo, Skye Humphries, etc. He is also a well known choreographer, performer, and swinging jazz and R&B vocalist.
Virginie has been teaching with Steven for eight years. She brings her own reputation as a performer and as a high-energy teacher who can generate excitement wherever she teaches or dances. Her extensive dance background includes ballet, jazz, and ballroom in addition to the years she has put in mastering Lindy Hop. Virginie is a strong teacher & role model for women dancers, bringing out the ‘true woman’ in their dancing.
Steven and Virginie’s style of teaching and dancing compliment each other perfectly. They both genuinely enjoy teaching and especially enjoy teaching together. They share a love of dance, have exceptional musicality, and are constantly looking for new and creative ways to teach. Their enthusiasm is infectious.

    Frankie Manning
"No one has contributed more to the Lindy Hop than Frankie Manning -- as a dancer, innovator and choreographer. For much of his lifetime he has been an unofficial Ambassador of Lindy Hop. Originally touring as a dancer and choreographer with Whitey's Lindy Hoppers in the 30's and 40's, he helped spread the popularity of the Lindy Hop through three continents. Once again, since the swing dance revival that started in the 1980s, Frank Manning has been a driving force worldwide with his teaching, choreography and performance. His own love of swing music and dancing has been as contagious as his dazzling smile." --Judy Pritchett

Class Descriptions for Steven and Virginie

Steppin’ It Up—Class Description will be provided later

    Lindy Hop 1 [/u]
    Lindy Hop Fundamentals: (all levels)
This is one of the great classes Steven and Virginie teach. Many people take it over and over again because of the depth of knowledge S & V bring to their teaching. The content of this class is always evolving. Expect to learn a lot! This class covers form, styling, moving with grace, connection, body mechanics, and more. (If you’ve never danced any Lindy before, this class is not for you. It is for those with at least some Lindy Hop experience) Find out why S&V are two of the best, they will get you moving with your partner in ways you never thought possible.

Movement class with Virginie: Now that you’ve started the partner stuff, learn to master your own awareness of movement. Swinging and Funky: (all levels) Her class gets you moving in new ways to great energetic music – from Swing to Funk. You’ll learn about dance movement while having fun, fun, fun. It’s high energy and everyone loves it.. Virginie at her best! (for both leaders and followers at all levels)

Lindy Hop 2 (Building on Lindy Class 1 and Virginie’s movement, now it’s time to really start dancing.)
Lindy Hop – Intermediate (all levels) Steven and Virginie have a huge repertoire of material and concepts that they will draw on to create this class. Take your Lindy Hop to the next level. If you haven’t taken class with these two before, you are in for a treat. [This class is for dancers with previous Lindy Hop experience]

Lindy Hop 3 (Building on the previous classes with added complexity to get the most out of the students.)
Lindy Hop - Intermediate/Advanced I: (int/adv) In this class S & V draw from their incredible depth of Lindy Hop experience. They are the best at what they do with ever evolving material and teaching methods. Their dancing is amazingly creative and yet always stays close to their roots in Lindy Hop. This class will allow them to thoroughly explore the material they present.

    Jazz Movements with Steven
    Jazz Movement: (int/adv)
Steven at his creative best as he builds a choreographed jazz routine to swinging music. High energy and fun! People travel hundreds and even thousands of miles to take Jazz class with Steven. This session will challenge you and make you have a new passion for music and movement.

    Blues
    – S&V are masters at the beautiful style of social blues/slow dancing – see why they say S&V dance ‘in the music’
Blues Dancing: (int/adv ) Steven and Virginie’s dancing and teaching laid the foundation for the popularity of this great dance form. These two will take you beyond where you thought you could go in form and expression whether you are new to this dance or a veteran blues dancer. (This class is for Int/Adv Lindy dancers with or without previous blues dance experience)

    Swing Walk
    Swing Walk: (all levels)
This vintage partner dance was done by the original lindy hoppers around the perimeter of the Savoy Ballroom to faster music when dancers needed a break from swing outs, but still wanted to keep the energy in the their dancing high. This dance is great for teaching you how to really move your body while maintaining connection with your partner. Make sure you bring a friend to this class because once you’ve learned this exciting dance you will definitely want to have someone to practice it with!

    Couples Charleston

    – S&V have a unique & fun partner Charleston routine they want to share with OH(-IO!)

Master Class (by invitation) Advanced Lindy Hop Class: This class is in response to the many requests we’ve had for a Steven & Virginie Lindy Hop class geared to advanced dancers. Learn from the masters. [Don’t miss out - Class size is limited to those with special invitation or full weekend passes]

Until I saw Virginie dancing with Steven at the Oakland Swing Dance Festival two years ago, all the big name follows I had seen seemed to me more like a prop to their more capable leads and it was kinda depressing. Both Steven and Virginie, with their unique style and their passion for the dance have revolutionized my dancing and I would encourage all the ladies to come learn from one of my favorite follows and show those provo boys who are always whining about a lack of good follows what's up...And I would encourage the leads to come out too so they will be able to keep up with the follows and the tables don't get turned on your lame behinds [Emoticon not found] [Emoticon not found] [Emoticon not found] ...Talkin' about a revolution baby!!

Come, now. How about love, love, love...... [Emoticon not found]

I just want to let all the Provo dancers know that we are holding our LAST registration drive for Harlem Nights at the BYU opening social dance THIS Saturday. We wanted to show our love and give the Provo scene an extra opportunity to get in for the cheaper price.

This is your last chance to register for the special club-member price of $70. After that, the price goes back up to $85 until February when it goes up to $90. Look for our table at the dance. I will be there, along with Kate Rouse and Grant Keaton.

Also, feel free to ask us to dance!!!!!

  10.

what's the story on private lessons eh?

UnfortunatelySteven and Virginie do not teach privates any longer.. But come to their classes.. they are seriously the best at teaching you how to feel the music and hot to have connection and how to move your body.
