Hey guys, this is quite a bit off, but I thought I would get some of you thinking about it ahead of time. I went to a few dances last year and have seen some of the clips from the classes and competitions so I am incredibly stoked about this year. All of you could come and dance your feet off, as well as get to visit me in my hometown. [Emoticon not found]

I was in France for a couple weeks and have received many questions about the Festival.

...Here are the answers to most of them.

    See you at Showdown!

    ~ Chance

    **************

FOR THE 1ST TIME, FEATURING ALL 4 NIGHTS OF LIVE MUSIC:

friday.....Carl Sonny Leyland Quartet (boogie, blues & the jack and jill contest)

saturday.....Jonathan Stout Orchestra (big band swing & the lindy hop finals)

saturday.....Nathan & Ben's Blues All Stars (country blues)

sunday.....Jim Ziegler & His Swingsations (swing combo & the balboa contest)

mon afternoon.....New Orleans Band TBA (jazz, blues & the partner charleston contest)

monday.....Hal Smith's Blue Voo (kansas city jazz and blues & the solo dance contest)

    PLEASE NOTE

At the Rhythmic Arts Festival this year there will not be separate a

swing and blues pass. Dancers will simply choose which bands they

want to dance to. Besides, it is absolutely possible and recommended

(though certainly not required) to dance to all of the bands featured at the festival!

    6 AWESOME DEEJAYS:

    Devona Cartier.....new york city, ny

    Tina Davis.....austin, tx

Mike Faltesek.....seattle, wa (Spinning All Contest Prelims)

    Kelly Porter.....detroit, mi

    Ryan Swift.....rochester, ny

    still waiting on one dj

THIS YEAR, THERE ARE 4 CLASSES FOR ALL LEVELS:

    saturday.....BLUES w/ Mike Faltesek

    saturday.....JAZZ w/ Naomi Uyama

monday.....HISTORY w/ Hal Smith & Carl Sonny Leyland *live music

monday.....RHYTHM w/ Peter Strom *live music

NEWLY ADDED IS THE ALL NEW DANCE SYMPOSIUM:

sunday starting at 11am.....A Symposium is an alternative way for

street dancers to learn and grow in a social and open atmosphere.

The Dance Symposium will feature a film clip presentation, open discussion

about vernacular music and dance, open practice time, mini-lessons, and

    of course social dancing.

    THE WEEKEND ALSO INCLUDES:

San Diego's favorite outdoor dance saturday after-noon: Lindy By The

Bay, a new year's eve toast, a tap jam for all levels, fast exciting contests,

and social dancing, social dancing, social dancing, and more social dancing.

Please note the other minor change: on Sunday and Monday between 11am and 5am,

the ballroom will not close; music will always be playing!

Plus, there is really good food and drinks at reasonable prices on the

premises. (Vegetarian too!) Claire, the owner of Claire De Lune, is the

awesome person who allows us to hold our festival. Check out her site:

    http://www.clairedelune.com

4 NIGHTS AND 3 FULL DAYS OF DANCING & MUCH MORE:

    $130 ... before OCT 15

    $140 ... before NOV 15

    $150 ... before DEC 15

$160 ... at the DOOR (if available)

ONLY 400 TICKETS WILL BE SOLD!

Last year sold out.....No more than 400 tickets will be sold so that

festival is not over-crowded. (There will be a limited number of day

passes available for those that need them in order to attend.)

Plus, there is a free event! Lindy By The Bay has no limit on capacity

and is a free and public event. Don't miss it.

Buying tickets in advance helps with many aspects of the festival, including

local housing for those that need it. There will be a limited amount of

housing available; first come first served. Buying your tickets in advance

helps the festival run more smoothly.

A new and up-to-date website coming soon! Be on the lookout for

cheap flights! You will not want to miss new years at the Rhythmic Arts Festival.

I don't think anyone but us three have really commited. But I will keep my options open. I would rather carpool if a group is wanting to go. That would be allot more fun anyway.

Woohoo I saw some footage from last year. We are going to have a blast. The lessons on Saturday look great too.

I want to go, but I know I can't afford the whole thing. There's no dance only pass and I'm waiting to see if people can pay for dances at the door. I'd have to carpool, too. I don't know. We'll see.
