Some people say drinking improves their dancing.

Blues is kinda like alcohol. Not for me.

I danced with a couple of drunk people tonight. I hate the smell, and they were somewhat careless in their dancing. I wish there was an easier way to tell before you ask them to dance.

it's like with anything, yoiu have to work on it to get better. the sad thing is that alot of people that go to house or "rent" parties only go to get drunk and get some action. many of these same people dance blues, as well as everything else, very lazilly. and that is what most people see at exchanges and other lindy events. one thing that down home blues opened my eyes to is that you can dance an entire night of blues without listening to the same music/doing the same thing over and over. there are many facets to blues dancing and many styles. but the key is awareness of what you are doing and a desire to work on it. if you think you learn from it and become a better lindy hopper, you will, if you don't, you won't.

just to clarify, slow drag and blues drag are different. (according to damon stone) slow drag has been around for awhile, blues drag is what they call what chance from la and others have started doing in the past 5 to 10 years. and on another note, the savoy dancers bluesed at the savoy, it's called ballrooming, and yes slow drag and ballrooming are blues dances. if you don't believe me talk to damon stone, falty, ria, or kelly porter.

Damon and Ria are doing a workshop here in Austin tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm in the process of leaving town, and I didn't buy in in advance

if you can go to just one class, you should do it. it's one of those things you should definately make time for, as it's unlikely you will ever get that opportunity in utah (anytime soon).
Great Harpist Snooky Pryor Passes
Our friend Snooky Pryor passed away about 1am this morning, October 19. Only in the last few years has Snooky Pryor finally begun to receive full credit for the mammoth role he played in shaping the amplified Chicago blues harp sound during the postwar era. He's long claimed he was the first harpist to run his sound through a public-address system around the Windy City — and since nobody's around to refute the claim at this point, we'll have to accept it! He's still quite active musically, having cut two potent discs for Austin, TX-based Antone's Records in recent years. James Edward Pryor... <more>
