san francisco is just as expensive to live in some of those other places on his list. and Utah gets earthquakes too

I really like san francisco and sacramento. I won't consider living there for the single reason that of all the places I've traveled I've heard more cussing there than any other place. I've been there twice and if I counted all the cussing I heard on those two trips it would far surpass all the cussing I've ever heard throughout the rest of my life.

Okay, maybe it's not that bad, but it's enough to keep me away.

Well you oculd have always put Singapore and/or Hong Kong on the list but you didn't did you ? HA ! HMPPHHHH....

Singapore has probably the strogest swing scene in Asia...(although the Japanese swingers woudl beg to differ..) and Hong Kong has a small small a few month old scene and they are seriosuly looking for leads (so PTS can be the Grand daddy of HK swing !)....but we asians all share the love...and the follows...and sometimes even the leads...

  4.

I think PTS is moving away to find his mecca of lindy hop... Since I don't believe he sees Utah as such he is looking elsewhere... Seattle I would say is so at the top... I can sympathize with his feelings.. I also have felt the need to look elsewhere for my own mecca of Lindy... But here I still am... Sigh... Well good luck PTS..... You will be missed.. If you move maybe I shall consider moving as well

I am thinking of several other places "in the world." San Fran just happens to be too much of the world for my tastes.

I'm not sure if I'll really move out of Utah. I like it here a lot, my family is here, and I have a lot of really good friends here. I consider moving a lot though. I have mutliple reasons for wanting to leave. Finding a mecca of lindy hop is one reason. There are other reasons, which are too many and too complicated for this thread. Too complicated because I'm not even sure how to describe them.

I think San Fran/Sac/Seatte are a little bit too liberal for you pop.

Or you could join the military because

a)you'll get to choose where you want to station including places oversea

    b)military people don't cuss a lot

Word, that'd be sweet! For it to be my lindy mecca though I'll need to convert people to believe in what I would call mecca! How do you create a mecca that everyone considers mecca? [Emoticon not found]

Mecca was one of the original cities of Islam. Kind of like how Harlem, and the Savoy ballroom were the birthplaces of Lindy. A mecca tends to hold the original and unique. I suppose some cities are involved in the re-birth of Swing over the past couple of decades, and are meccas in their own right. Part of getting a big scene is a critical mass of people who want it to happen, and some big names to support it.

Yes, there will be dancing during the entire reception (6:30-8:30pm) and the travel from Provo to here is 250 miles (usually takes me anywhere between 3 to 3 1/2 hours) so from SLC, it should only be about 210.
