    Solo Jazz Lines & Shapes

    Let’s start giving some style and personality to our solo dancing. Now that you know how to execute steps, let’s make it look alive by creating lines and shapes with body movement and our arms.

    **Mad Dog Airsteps

    This class is for those of you who are ready to bring your performance lindy to the next level. Learn great airsteps for jams or performances from two of our mad dog instructors. There will be tricks and aerials in this class so you must have a partner.

    Balboa Technique & Timing

    Let’s get to the core of balboa technique and really master our connection and timing. This will be the best way to bring your balboa to the next level.

    Innovative Jazz Routine

    It’s time to swing your bal in style. Learn some of the flare, footwork and flash that sets your balboa apart from everyone else.

    Snakehips

    Learn this unique dance called Snakehips made popular by Earl “Snakehips” Tucker during the jazz age. This dance uses a lot of body and muscle isolation…oh yeah, and you get to see Andy gyrate his pelvis. Good stuff!

    Partner Charleston

    Inspired by the film clip, After Seben, this class will go over lots of fun 1920’s Partner Charleston variations. Charleston and the Breakaway evolved into lindy hop. Learning uptown old time charleston will help you better understand lindy hop while expanding your repertoire with some fun Partner Charleston moves and techniques.

    Rhythm & Texture

    Deepen your lindy hop by incorporating rhythms and texture to your movement and timing. Bringing this element of you Lindy Hop will also improve your musicality and styling.

    Solo Charleston

    Learn a solo Charleston routine and pick up some fun styling steps from Chester; a true Charleston expert. This class will be a lot of fun and will help liberate your solo dancing!

    Performance Lindy Hop

    Learn how to bring your performance Lindy Hop to the next level with two of the top competitors and performers in the world. This will be a high energy, fast moving class so get ready to move!

    Closed Position Party

    Most of us don’t spend enough time exploring movement and connection in closed position. Before you automatically swing out, start learning how to party it up in closed position instead!

    Hellzapoppin’: Whitey’s Styling

    Nick & Ria

    Hellzapoppin is considered the end all be all of lindy hop performance clips. Nick & Ria have used this clip as inspiration since they started dancing lindy hop and continue to this day. This class teaches the performance movements found in this clip while breaking down some of Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers styling.

    Solo Blues Movement

    Let’s bring the tempos down and start learning how to move to the blues as an individual Inspired by Josephine Baker, JoJo and Giselle are going to break down some movement and bring out your inner self.

    From Lindy Hop to Hip Hop

    We know that Lindy Hop came out of the Charleston, but did you know that Lindy Hop is one of the roots of Hip Hop? In this class, you will learn the correlation between Hip Hop and Lindy Hop while learning some great Hip Hop moves.

    Stand Up Comedy: Have Fun and Let Go!

    We are all pretty hard core about dancing, but in the end, it should be FUN. When you start to let go and have fun, your dancing gets better! Learn how to let go of your inhibitions and make your Lindy Hop fun and effortless.

    Lindy Hop Breaks & Phrasing

    One of the best ways to put emphasis and musicality into your Lindy Hop, is to learn how to predict breaks and phrasing in the music. Learn some unique and exciting repertoire to use during breaks and to complete phrases in the music.

    Al & Leon’s Shim Shim

    Al Minns and Leon James were two of the best dancers to come out of the Savoy Ballroom. They were the innovators of a very popular version of the tap shim sham called Al & Leon’s Shim Sham. If you know Dean’s or Frankie’s shim sham, you MUST learn Al & Leon’s.

    Styling with Lines & Levels

    Sean & Emily

    In order to truly appreciate the music and bring your lindy hop to the next level, you need to start incorporating lines, syncopations, rhythms and levels into your styling. The “lines” in your lindy hop determine how you look as a dancing couple and the levels you use in your movement bring a new level of styling to your lindy hop. This class will help you re-define the look and feel of your lindy hop!

    Challenging Lindy Hop Routine

    Learn this challenging Lindy Hop routine that incorporates some great combinations and syncopations. The moves you learn in this routine can easily be transferred into your social dancing and jam repertoire.

    Relaxed & Bad a**

    The best way to look good on the social floor is to RELAX and look confident. Once you learn how to execute Lindy Hop combos while being relaxed, you will then be “bad a**”.

    Jazz Through the Ages: From Tap to Be Bop

    Jazz through the ages is a theme at CJ and the Jump Session show. This class will explore the history from Tap to Be Bop dancing and how they correlate with other jazz dances. You will learn some fundamentals of these dances as we go through the ages in jazz dance.

    The basis of partner dancing is a connection with your partner. This class will focus on connection and how to lead and follow properly. This class will allow you to execute moves more clearly on the social floor.

    Building up your Basics

    Focusing on the fundamentals of lindy hop, this class will help you swing out with basic patterns and moves. The basics of lindy hop are the core of your dance, so this class will help get you ready to lead and follow on the social floor.

    Lindy Hop Footwork & Timing

    Now that you are connected, let’s start getting those feet moving to the music. This class will go over footwork and timing in your lindy hop so you can start transitioning better between moves.

    Fun Combinations & Moves

    So now that you are connecting with your partner and you can execute some fundamentals, let’s learn some moves! This class will help add more variety to your repertoire.

    Putting it all Together

    With all of the new moves in your repertoire, let’s make sure we can transition and put it all together. It is one thing to know a lot of moves, but it is another thing to be able make them all flow together.

    Charleston in your Lindy Hop

    Charleston is the root of Lindy Hop. Let’s start adding some fun Charleston combinations to your lindy hop. Charleston moves are great to do when the music starts getting faster.

    Balboa Swing Basics

    Balboa is a tight partner dance that uses subtle footwork and connection. It is a great dance done to faster music as well. This class is a great introduction to balboa and will help strengthen your leading and following abilities.

    Lindy Hop Tricks & Mayhem

    Micheal & Lorraine

    Lindy Hop was a street dance and the performers would pull a lot of tricks out of their pockets when jam circles would form. This is a fun class that will teach you some basic tricks and air steps.

    Lindy Hop Fun: From the Classroom to the Social Floor

    Dan & Tiff

    It is the end of the weekend and your head is jam packed with lots of material. Once you leave CJ, you will be on your own on the social floor. So, this class will help you break that barrier between the classroom and bringing it to the social floor. Let’s get out there, dance and have fun!

    We have several important Camp Jitterbug updates, so please read carefully!

    JUMP SESSION SHOW

    As you probably know, the JS is sold out. However, more spots may open up so be sure to add your name to the waiting list by emailing Tonya at jitterbugclub@yahoo.com . You will be contacted IF you are offered a spot. If we do not contact you, then you did not get in.

    JUMP SESSION WILL CALL

    If you have confirmed tickets for JS, please arrive early to pick up your tickets at will call. We suggest arriving between 7:00-7:15pm.

    FRIDAY NIGHT DANCE

    Even if you do not attend or get into the JS show, you can still go to the Friday night dance featuring the Solomon Douglas Swingtet. Campers $10/General Public $15 9:00pm-midnight

    COMPETITIONS SIGN UPS

    Competition slots will sell out...so sign up for the competitions EARLY. Competition sign ups will open on Friday night from 5:30-7:30pm at the Knights of Columbus lobby.

    INDIVIDUAL CLASS SIGN UPS

    Individual class sign ups will be available at the door on Saturday morning...if there is room! Be sure to show up EARLY (10am sharp) because tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Individual classes are $20 per class.

    MASTERS TRACK AUDITION

    IMPORTANT!!! We have decided to have the audition for the masters track at 9:45am SHARP. All campers must audition. If you did not specify that you are auditioning, please do so by emailing Tonya at jitterbugclub@yahoo.com so we have an idea on the size of the track.

    BEGINNERS TRACK

    If you did not specify that you are taking the beginners track, please do so by emailing Tonya at jitterbugclub@yahoo.com so we have an idea on the size of the track. If you have been dancing 6 months or less, you should be in the beginners track!

    CHANGE OF PLANS FOR SUNDAY NIGHT DANCE

    IMPORTANT: In order to make sure EVERYONE can enjoy dancing on Sunday night and not wait in line, we have a new plan for Sunday night. We will have TWO venues for the dance: The Century Ballroom AND Pravda Studios (one block away from eachother). This will provide 7500 sq ft of dancing space (3 times the space as last year). The Century Ballroom will feautre the Ham Carson Quintet and Pravda Studios will be the location for ALL COMPETITIONS THAT NIGHT and will feature awesome dj's. The admission price stays the same...you will get into both venues for one admission price.

    JAM BAND: CALLING ALL MUSICIANS

    We are thinking of having another Jam Session like last year. We are planning on having it at the Sunday after hours, but that could change. We will keep you updated. If you are a musician and want to be a part of this, please email Tonya at jitterbugclub@yahoo.com .

    WE NEED HOSTS!

    Seattle has been doing an awesome job of really stepping up and hosting our out of towners...THANK YOU!!! Even with all of this generosity, we are still have a few more homeless out of towners. If you can host any dancers, please email Max (our housing coordinator) at maximus@swingangels.net

    CAMP JITTERBUG IS ALMOST SOLD OUT

    Right now we have 375 campers...we are going to cut it off at 400, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible! There is still room in the Beginners Track, so spread the word to your friends, or if you want to do lead/follow role reversal, this would be a great way to learn.

    I'll be there! I won't be going to the workshops unfortunately, but I'll be at the dance. My mom will be there that weekend so I am gonna chill with her and my bro during the day. Whoever goes will get to meet my mom on Friday night. She is going to see Solomon play =).
