Who, what, when, where? And we all know why.

I imagine there will probably be dancing at our house, maybe we could have a blues lesson before?

    Say Wednesday night for example.

If we can get enough people to commit now, we can get Solomon and Noni to come back up and do a workshop in June. Who's interested?

yeah! well we need the good blues dancers to volunteer to teach... who might that be? oh and solomon is booked out for the summer he wont be coming i think...

  1.

    Damn!!!.. That's a shame

  2.

I disagree (not with the sultan, I agree with him).

That is, unless you want to learn how to dance like Skye and Naomi in this clip (their first shine is at 2:53 into the clip, second is at 3:56). If that's the case, I'm all for it. Oh, Skye and Naomi took first place in the competition the video is from.

Come on! Let's learn real blues! [Emoticon not found] Exciting blues, energetic blues, blues guaranteed not to get anyone pregnant on the dance floor.

Yes, I understand that I am disliked strongly by many for these opinions. [Emoticon not found]

  3.

Damn Skippy!!.. (now that you all know what that means) I am with Pop on this one.. let's learn that energetic musical blues dance form demonstrated on those clips... I am down with that...

One thing though... if I see a gazillion people trying to dance exactly like <insert rock star's name here> *cough* a lot of denver dancers *cough* I'll beat you.

no no no, I'm not dissin' the rock stars. I am dissin' people who try to dance exactly like rock stars, to the point where you watch them dance and think "gee, they look like _____, but they're not ______." It's cool people can do that, but it's not the point. If we're gonna have rock stars here we gotta develop our own styles. Rock stars aren't rock stars because they dance exactly like some other rock star.

Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding there.

  7.

I agree.. there are quite a few rockstars in Utah already.. we have some really good Utah dancers that are unique in their own styles it's sweet... See when you watch Rockstars as they are reffered to, you watch them and they do all thes really amazing tricks and moves.. but what some people aren't seeing is that this the way they feel the music this is how they interpret the music.. when clones try and do them it just looks like moves.. not art. Although they are doing the moves exactly like their hero's they are missing the soul from it and it looks.. well I won't say.. but it's just not the same. However I am all for bringin these cats down here to teach all of us how to do Da Drag

 hey this sounds great lets bring some rock stars out to teach us Ive all ready had some of solomons classes hes great are there any other blues teachers we would like to learn from who teach? and if we want to stick with solomon do we want to try and get him out here or try to go some whare else it may be to late to get him and his partner out to UT(i think her name is noni)

the real question is do we want to bring someone out to UT during the summer or wait tell the fall when people get back?what do U think?

I feel you Ryan on the whole "trying-to-dance-exactly-like-X-rockstar" thing.... and I think that it's A) lame on it's own right because you should develop you're own style, but I think that Boo's right that [Emoticon not found] the principle reason it looks bad is because they get the moves, but don't have the musicality and interpretation that the original dancer has.

the point is to learn from many people and make it your own. we need to bring many different teachers in. the key is to bring in people regularly, and be consistant. the big problem is utahs cheapness, but that is a different topic.

. . . and the time. Though I have almost all the time in the world right now as I'm still getting settled.

I danced at the Fed last night in Austin. Their basic class was 3 step east (However you describe east without a triple step). The hall was two thirds East on the north side, and one third lindy on the south by the stage.

I totally agree with u on point ([Emoticon not found] I think this is an area I really strugle in but at the same time Im so new to swing that it is hard to anticipate what the music is doing in time to lead it properly. it is something Im working on and I think with the more commonly played songs I do ok but I still need a lot of work

  10.

Hey everybody! I have been in contact with Solomon over the past few weeks and we decided that it would be better to wait until the fall for him to come for a possible workshop. Unfortunately, Noni won't be available at that time, but you know he'll bring someone else amazing. Nothings finalized yet, but the plan for now is Solomon in the Fall.

I'm not in Utah, I'm in Texas, so ya'll is normal. I'm quite familiar with how contractions work, and I wouldn't put it past them to spell it "ya'll" just to spot the Yankees.
