    Representations of a user in cyberspace. I believe in the context you are referring to images like the cute picture of my niece and nephew to the left of all of my posts. Technically the word avatar also refers to your online name as much or more than the image, but that isn't the case here.

    Personally I find the idea of multiple versions of Bob hanging around a little disturbing...

    there's only one real bob. the rest are just "manifestations".
