hooray for APC!
i was sitting here at my computer a moment ago, and the lights in my room dimmed. i heard a nice little click from under my desk as my brick of a power supply kicked in, and a moan from my roommate in the living room who has to restart both his computer and whatever his FPS game of the weeks is...
welcome to the last century.
geek4life:welcome to the last century.
i had one last century. i was just letting everyone know how excited i am that i still have one.
i don't know if that's what my work has, but whatever it is, it is my new best friend. i was typing and coding two entire pages new (usually I just have to make a few minor changes) when the power blipped out for 2 seconds. I about had a heart attack, but then I jumped for joy because my computer didn't turn off. [Emoticon not found]
It sure is nice... I really need to get one for my puter here in my apartment... maybe that will be my next project... hrmmmm
APC? What does that acronym stand for?
I know it as UPS - Uninteruppted Power Supply.

APC = "American Power Conversion Corp."
Ah... I see... so you mean your UPS, manufactured by APC.

precisely.
I have one at home, but not at work. Around 7:30 PM the power went out in the 7 or so office buildings around where I work. Luckily for me I was only writing an insignificant e-mail. Some backup lighting came on and I left. As I drove away, all the buildings lit up again.

the server in the living room doesn't have one. i just have on on my pc. so every once in a while i won't be able to log in remotely, and i'll have to call up a roommate to go power it back on.

funny thing is, none of them realize it's there... i have to tell them to go look behind the couch for a cpu, and push the power button. then i have to explain to them why i have a computer with just a power cable and an ethernet connection. and why in the world i would want it turned on.

ROFL!!!! that's awesome... especially the "cpu" part. lol!
Isn't there a BIOS setting to have it reboot on power failure? I though most generic PC's had that.
