Hey,
I'm in High School right now but was looking for a good swing dance club my and a girl (Holly) could go to to learn to dance/dance. Just saying howdie, and wondering if its ok for a high school couple to join swing dancing...
Cobbweb..

Absolutely! We'd love to have you and Holly (and anyone else) coming to the lessons and the dances. We have free lessons on tuesdays from 7-8, and free lessons an hour before the dance on saturdays (also 7-8 ). Come on out and get addicted!
Cobbweb:...to learn to dance/dance.
Just out of curiosity, what did you mean to write here?
I mean we want to dance and also learn to dace. Both of use are well not very good but we both like swing dancing.
Train them while they are young.
Welcome to the forum Cobbwebb (and Holly). We look forward to seeing you at the lessons and dances. This Saturday's dance is gonna be awesome. We're having the live band Uptown Hustlers play for us. It's in the Wilk ballroom. Hope you can make it!
A few years back, we used to have a bunch of High School students from riverton coming to the dances. They all ended up becoming great dancers as a result. We definately recommend anyone and everyone to come. See you on Saturday.
yeah. we'd love to have you cobwebb, etc... say hi when you see me!
Ps - He doesn't have the mohawk anymore. It's gone more fohawk.

i thought i'd leave describing myself as an excercise for my fellow forum members...
You suuuure you want to do that, Justin?
High school is a great time to learn. People get uptight in college (not pointing fingers at anyone in particular). [Emoticon not found]
Do I need to pay anything to get into the dances? Sounds like im ganna try to be there. Just is there an address i could use mapquest to get to the place .. btw very friendly board, more users than i expected, thats awsome.

here's a map... the wilk is building 93.
Do you know where BYU's campus is? If so just go to the BYU website... they have maps of campus there. http://home.byu.edu/webapp/home/index.jsp Click on A-Z index--> C--> Campus Map. At this point a map will appear. The Wilkinson Student Center is building 93 (it's one of the largest buildings on the map). There's a really big dance floor around the Garden Court (that wierd courtyard thingy) from Jamba Juice (if you have any idea what I'm talking about. Don't know if this helps.

I live in Riverton and dated a girl here who had videos of their performances. They did get pretty good! Too bad they all disappeared!
Not that I will, but lets just say I showed up to the swing thing without a partner, how bad would that be? Do people show up and just dance? or is it kind of like, you gatta have a partner.... Obviously I going to try to but for some strange reason, im almost 0 for 3 asking girls. Guess its a bad week. (Holly can't do it this week) In the case i cant find somone in the next 4 hours im most likely ganna be a third wheel (not a good feeling) yet i still wanna learn to swing better so ill probably come anyway.
The Cobbweb
No just show up.... it doesn't matter at all, as everyone dances with everyone else anyways...
just don't be afraid to ask girls to dance and you'll be fine!
of course, that's the hard part!
do girls make you nervous pop the stack?
I'd say it's a lot harder to learn if you're stuck with the same partner every time. Come with a group or by yourself; you're more than welcome and you'll dance a lot if you ask a lot of people to dance.

SpecialK:Girls make me nervous Ash.
me too...
Girls don't make ME nervous. Nuh uh! No sir!
This is why girls make me nervous.

That proof is freakin hilarious.
And on a more related note.
Cobbwebb did you come tonight?
That proof is classic... I think we might have had an entire class debate on that proof once in high school... the majority of the class was forced to conclude that the logic was inescapable.
I complety agree, even though i just got out of sunday school and all we talked about was how we have to treat women right and they deserve so much respect! [Emoticon not found]

Ladies, promise you won't hurt me? [Emoticon not found]

only under certain circumstances. most of the time, no.
Man - A Chemical Analysis
Element : Man
Atomic Mass : Accepted as 70. May vary from 50-150 kg.
: Highly reactive at 150 or higher. (avoid at all costs)
Quantitative : wavy brown hair, 6' 0" in length,
though some isotopes can be as short as 4 inches.
Discoverer : Eve
Occurance : Found following duel element Wo, often in high
concentration near a perfect Wo specimen.
Physical properties :
1) Obnoxious when mixed with C*H*-OH (any alcohol).
2) Tends to fall into very low energy state directly after reaction with Wo
(Snore ... zzzzz).
3) Gains considerable mass as specimen ages, loses reactive nature.
4) Rarely found in pure form after 14th year.
5) Often damaged as a direct result of unlucky reaction with polluted form of the Wo commom ore.
6) Tarnishes easily. Needs constant polishing and attention
7) Crusty exterior but may be soft underneath.
[Emoticon not found] Naturally found in the crude state but may be purified
9) Simple in structure.
10)Often found in the gaseous state.
11)Spontaneous polarity changes relative to surrounding specimens.
Chemical properties :
1) All forms desire reaction with Wo, even when no further reaction is
possible.
2) May react with several Wo isotopes in short period under extremely
favorable conditions.
3) Usually willing to react with what ever is available.
4) Reaction Rates range from aborted/non-existant to Pre-interaction effects (which tend to turn the specimen bright red.
5) Reaction styles vary from extremely slow and calm to violent/bloody.
6) Great affinity for fatty substances.
7) May react violently under pressure.
[Emoticon not found] Low boiling point, high melting point.
9) Attraction to large quantities of iron.
10)Poorly bonds with other substances.
11)Pure substances are rarely found except when covalently bonded.
Storage : Best results apparently near 18 for high reaction rate,
25-35 for favorable reaction style.
Uses : Heavy boxes, top shelves, long walks late at night,
general repairs, free dinners for Wo...
Tests :
1) Pure specimen will rarely reveal purity, while reacted
specimens broadcast information on many wavelengths.
2) Appearance greatly improves when placed in a sports car.
3) Easily titrates to yellow under stress.
4) Never true blue.
Caution : Tends to react extremely violently when other Man interferes with reaction to a particular Wo specimen. Otherwise very maleable
under correct conditions.

As a general rule, it is usually a bad idea to bring someone that might be considered a "date" to a swing dance. This is because you will want to dance with lots fo people, and bringing a "date" locks you into having to dance with them all the time.
This is true Jared, though I think that if it is made clear beforehand that dancing with other people is both kosher and encouraged, then bringing a date to swing is a good thing.

I agree.

Then it's not much of a date, is it?

make it part of a date... i've done that before. although if i'm there with a date, i make sure to spend a bit more time with my date than with everyone else. i do think it's important for a date to understand that i won't spend the entire night dancing with her. if they wouldn't be comfortable with that, it probably isn't appropriate to take them social dancing as a date.

I think I just met one of them tonight. She may not have danced at the Y, but she said some Riverton HS alums/Y students would come back to Riverton HS to teach them back when she went to school there.
Yeah, there are a could of Riverton kids that go to school in Logan now. They were at the BYU this past Saturday.
I wish My High School was cool enough to have kids other than me that new how to swing! We have ballroom, but that would be heracy to say they know how! I have often pondered on the idea of making a swing club, but i figured i couldnt really because if follows wanted to learn i couldnt really teach them! This forum should get a sticker it just recieved my One Hundredth Post!
gold stars for ben!
Yay, put it right here on my forehead! ![]()
the only problem with your formula is it is 2(evil) not evil squared...learn the math boyo...
No, no - he's right. If girls = money squared, and money is the root of all evil, you would square evil to get it to equal girls. I think it's you who needs to learn the math. [Emoticon not found]
why didnt i think of that...??? HA
i need to stick to boilogy and chemistry. MEMO to SELF Leave Math ALONE

Chemistry requires a fair amount of math. You should probably take Biology and run.

maybe keyboarding, too...
Or you could just major in Psych! [Emoticon not found]
Yeah, but you need to learn grammar, spelling, punctuation and how to write in general for psych.
