A little bleep in there, but something all prolific posters should consider. I almost want to put the link on registration, but it's a little imposing (and requires flash).

    do good grammar?

btw: the current prescriptive rules in English grammar were dictated by rich (and perhaps pompous) people who thought it was necessary for English to have rules in order to be an "acceptable" language like French or Latin, so they borrowed rules from Latin and forced them on English.

For example the "don't split an infinitive" rule was forced on English because it is impossible to split an infinitive in Latin, as Latin verbs are one word. In English, this rule is impractical because English verbs are two or more words. It is only natural to split an infinitive at times, because it makes more sense to put the adverb closest to the word it is modifying rather than before a verb phrase.

In other words, "good" grammar/usage is relative, and in a lot of ways is a lot of trash. Also, it's rude to correct someone else's speech when they don't want to be corrected. It's like correcting someone else's dancing when you're in the middle of a dance. Just let it go.

What would this world be like if we were all understanding and forgiving? I submit that chaos would ensue.

I agree.... leet-speak would reign, and all communication would rapidly deteriorate into responses like "k00l" and "d00d"... [Emoticon not found]

Seriously. It gets really really annoying. For some reason people think this whole internet thing means that people are okay with being corrected (because it's impersonal), but in reality it's just like saying it to their face. Sometimes it's worse than saying it to their face because they can't see your facial expression, tone of voice, etc.

    Indeed.

Hey, I personally think its k00l to make responses such as "k00l" and frequently have the urge to refer to friends as "d00ds". Deteriation of the language? Naw, progression! Haha! With Traci as a moderator, the lexical and grammatical shackles will finally be l00sed from this linguistically oppressive forum! [Emoticon not found]

It wasn't strictly trolling. I was just wondering if people would let it slide or if they would be uncontrollably compelled to fix my grammar.

most likely, in the true spirit of a forum, they were uncontrollably compelled to mock you.

    just a note:

if you start the same thread in two different places you don't get more conversation. you get two half-conversations.
you also get made fun of.

please choose an appropriate place, and post a single thread.
